The tree of life, the Brahman, Reaching
from heaven to earth, Human nature is its
foliage, Human desire, its karma.

Adhas cordhvam prasrtas tasya sakha
guna-pravrddha visaya-pravalah Adhas ca
mulanya anusantatami Karmanubhandhini
manusya loke

(Its branches extend below and above,
nourished by three kinds of human nature,
