The mere fact that we vote does not make this country a democracy. Neither does the fact that we have a Parliament. So what does? Our constitutional freedoms, our independent judiciary, the so-called `free and fair’ elections? Maybe so. But I believe the one thing that makes this country truly a democracy is not just the freedom but also the intent to question and challenge the powerful.
